There Is No Prophetic Voice

There is no prophetic voice.
There is no Phinehas with a spear
No Nathan for our Davids
No Jeremiah amid the rubble

The Silence of the Reformed has been replaced with the statements of politicians.

What we needed was a word that does justice to the holiness of God and the grace of the gospel they espouse. What we got were statements about what was prudent. And that statement was taken down because of the flurry of dissent.

TGC has now weighed in with no comments allowed. And they have either not told the truth or not read the accusations against Mahaney.

There is no prophetic voice. Just the quiet of dust hanging then falling on the rubble of what was once a movement.

Did you see the posts elsewhere about where the Gospel Coalition quote came from?

They pick a quote by a person who was sexually asaulted at age 13 and use it to discredit all the bloggers on SGM survivors blogs. I am hoping DACarson acted in ignorance and will apologize. I told him on his blog about it. Otherwise I guess it is bye bye TGC for me. ( the quote is below, set off by ++++++).

I am very sad today, but somehow not surprised.

“I’m just going to share a little story and some minor commentary at the end.

One Superbowl Sunday, I was at a prominent SGM (then PDI) member’s house. There were dozens of others in attendance, lots of teens and younger adults. Remote controlling and commercial censoring were in full effect, snacks were in abundance, and everything was so biblical…as biblical as recently invented sports events centered around electronic devices can be. During a commercial break, I was sexually assaulted against an exterior wall of that house.

    I was thirteen.

Not a single one of those appointed to ‘watch over’ anything, much less my soul, noticed a thing when I and the perpetrator went back inside the house. I doubt it would have mattered anyway. My family was in the outer circle, despite decades of $$$ and attendance. I started “rebelling” thereafter and refused to attend any church functions, and my parents surprisingly didn’t seem to mind (despite them not knowing the reasons for my rebellion). They severed ties with PDI/SGM 2 years later.

Why bring this up? I think it’s quite telling that despite the micromanagement of ‘biblical living’, horrible things have not only slipped under the radar of those ‘caring for our souls’ (etc., barf) but have been actively hidden, squashed, silenced. ++++++The pending lawsuit is long-deserved. I hope it ruins the entire organization financially and every single perpetrator and co-conspirator financially, mentally and physically.”++++++++

A pattern seen time and again a movement starts then it becomes a business then it becomes a racket.

I’ve been wondering about Nathan’s role in confronting David. We know what and why but something I’ve been mulling over are references in Samuel and Chronicles to Gad as David’s seer, personal prophet. Where was Gad, if that’s the case? Did Nathan have to speak up because David’s personal seer was silent? It may be that the problem is not that there is no prophetic voice at all but that it has been silent or even complicit in schemes. Let’s not forget that Nathan may have been honest with David at the start of his appearances in the royal court but that he was part of scheming and subterfuge to get Solomon installed on the throne by the end of David’s life. Just some thoughts, for whatever they may be worth.
